Converting Quarterly, 2011 Quarter 3, Pag 52-57 “Correlating anilox-roll specifications to flexographic print targets and tolerances” by Alex James.
Charlotte, North Carolina, August 1, 2012—HarperScientific division of global anilox roll supplier Harper Corporation of America announces its first rack to store plate cylinders for Mark Andy’s P-Series presses. Because of the unique plate cylinders of the P-Series presses, HarperScientific designed its Cylinder Wrack™ to provide a storage solution that is equally distinct. The first unit delivered exceeded customer expectations.
The plate cylinder design of the Mark Andy P-Series presses integrates the shaft and bearings into the cylinder assembly. The P-Series cylinders have bearer discs on each end of the shaft. For this reason, they do not fit into any traditional storage solutions. HarperScientific’s Cylinder Wrack™ utilizes the space between the bearer and cylinder and opposite bearer and gear to support these cylinders horizontally.
The Cylinder Wrack™ comprises of 21 storage trays, which are arranged in three columns of seven trays. Each tray is padded at the ends and has a cam action to lower the front when desired, to ensure easy unloading. When fully loaded, the Cylinder Wrack™ can hold between 126 and 168 cylinders, depending upon their repeat. To improve the effectiveness of this storage solution, HarperScientific’s product development experts put the Cylinder Wrack™ on heavy duty casters, allowing customers to easily move the system to enhance workflow.
Paul Teachout, Harper’s Technical/OEM Account Manager, believes the Cylinder Wrack™ provides the convenience, quality, and efficiency that Harper Corporation’s customers have come to expect.
"The Cylinder Wrack™ is easy to load and unload," states Teachout. "It also allows the printer the flexibility to group the like repeats and jobs."

Charlotte, N.C., August 13, 2007 – The American Red Cross is partnering with Morton’s The Steakhouse to recognize America’s "Women of Spirit" at exclusive wine dinners held coast to coast. Charlotte is one of the 38 cities participating in recognizing an exemplary woman from its region.
Katherine Harper was recently selected as Charlotte’s "Woman of Spirit" because of her generosity and commitment to community service and philanthropy.
"Mrs. Harper was chosen from many wonderful nominations of area women who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to volunteerism and service," says Shanna Cochrane, General Manager of Morton’s SouthPark.
Morton’s SouthPark hosted the exclusive dinner on Tuesday, August 14. A portion of the ticket price and all money raised at the silent auction went to benefit the American Red Cross.
Harper founded Harper Corporation of America with her husband, Ron. Their innovative company is an international success with an established foundation that has supported educational institutions locally as well as internationally. Among the many recipients of Harper’s generosity is Central Piedmont Community College and Appalachian State University’s graphics program on the Boone campus.
However, Harper was distinguished at this event for the Katherine Harper Disaster Staging Area within the new Sadie Fowler Disaster Center of the Greater Carolinas Chapter of the American Red Cross. Harper and her husband have been supporters of the American Red Cross for many years. This disaster staging area will improve response time to benefit citizens of this region in crisis.
The reception and dinner menu included Morton’s signature cuisine paired with exquisite, carefully chosen Banfi wines.
The Women of Spirit dinner tour will conclude in late September with an "all-star" gala event honoring America’s "Women of Spirit" and the American Red Cross, to be held in Washington, DC, at the Morton’s in Georgetown, which will also be celebrating its 25th anniversary. This culmination event promises to attract nationally known political, entertainment and media personalities.

Charlotte, North Carolina, August 9, 2012—HarperScientific, a division of global anilox roll supplier Harper Corporation of America, is now offering custom imaged proofer rubber transfer rolls. These proofer transfer rolls can be personalized from text or graphic files.
The imaged proofer transfer rolls work in all HarperScientific’s Echocel™ Junior, Phantom™, and Phantom QD™ proofers. Laser engraved in the round, these rolls can bear the client’s image of choice, like a company logo or tone scale. A reversed out text file on the end of the roll face provides a way to specifically identify ink room proofs. A tonal scale image allows users an efficient way for checking ink characteristics at a 50 percent or other desired screen.
Besides providing custom engravings, two tonal scale designs are available. In the “standard” panel scale, 10 percent, 35 percent, 50 percent, and 75 percent screens are centered and wrapped around the repeat with a 100 percent solid on either side. The second predesigned “continuous” tone scale has 25 percent, 50 percent, and 75 percent screens again flanked on either side by a 100 percent solid. Customers interested in “continuous” tone scale rubber rolls can choose from 45, 55, and 70 durometer EPDM while “standard” tone scale rubber rolls are offered in 55 and 70 durometer EPDM.
