For almost 38 Years, Canflexographics has been at the forefront of innovation, education, and strategic partnerships, playing a pivotal role in advancing flexographic printing in Canada. Their commitment to excellence and continuous pursuit of innovation have made them an integral part of the industry’s growth and success.

In 1993, a transformative relationship began between Mr. Dave Horsman and Mr. Ron Harper. This partnership laid the foundation for Canflexographics’ commitment to quality and reliability, setting the stage for the remarkable 30-year celebration we mark today.

Kelly Roberts, Canflexo’s President,  joined Canflexographics in 2001, and reflected on his initial introduction and  enduring relationship with Mr. and Mrs. Harper,“Beyond business, the Harpers were keen on understanding the personal aspects of their associates, forging relationships that go beyond the corporate realm. This personal touch has been a hallmark of the Harper name, aligning seamlessly with Canflexographics’ values.”

Before delving into sales, that initial  conversation between Kelly Roberts and Mr. Harper centered around education and the industry’s needs in 2001. The Harper name has long been synonymous with education, and Kelly’s collaboration and work with  Clemson University, Toronto Metropolitan University, the Canadian Flexographic Training Committee and the Canadian Print Scholarships Fund demonstrates the shared commitment to advancing education in flexography.

Flexographic printing, once the youngest of all printing processes, underwent significant changes, making it competitive in the evolving printing landscape. Despite the rise of digital printing, Canflexographics believes in the enduring strength of flexography, with consistent anilox rolls being a key attribute. Harper Corporation’s expertise in matching anilox roll line screens and volumes has been a driving force in this regard.

Canflexographics acknowledges Harper Corporation’s role in their success story, considering Harper as more than a supplier but a partner in growth. The enduring relationship has been characterized by mutual learning, support, and shared growth, making Harper one of Canflexographics’ longest and  valued partnerships.

As  Kelly, Pascal Ross – Sales Manager and Christine Roberts – Vice President, look back on 30 years of achievements, the celebration with Harper is not just a reflection of their success but a testament to the enduring partnerships, shared values, and commitment to advancing the flexographic industry in Canada.

International prepress software company ‘Hamillroad Software’ announced that Harper Corporation of America has achieved accreditation of their leading anilox products for use with Bellissima Digitally Modulated Screening (DMS). The Bellissima DMS accreditation process took place over many weeks at the prestigious Clemson University in South Carolina.

Printers and converters worldwide can benefit from this accreditation by combining Harper’s anilox with Bellissima to see improvements in workflow and quality.

Andy Cave, CEO of Hamillroad, said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Harper – Harper is an innovator in the production of anilox rollers globally and our drive to improve efficiency and quality are matched. We are delighted to partner with Harper to promote Harper aniloxes with Bellissima to their North American and worldwide customer base.”

The Bellissima accreditation is a three-phase guided process using a wide range of screen and surface pattern testing, culminating in a ‘customer quality test’ to ensure samples meet the required commercial standards. The process is rigorous and requires technical expertise and commitment from each partner. Only Bellissima qualified plates can be used, and the comprehensive test includes a range of anilox and press combinations with Bellissima, using a variety of substrates on both narrow web and wide web presses.

Juan Bermúdez, Harper’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Technical Services added: “As a company, we’re delighted that Harper’s advanced anilox surface technology is able to achieve the full Bellissima accreditation under the guidance of Hamillroad’s highly experienced technical team. Quality of image is at the center of everything we do, and we are excited to see our customers benefit from this newly announced partnership with Hamillroad on Bellissima DMS.”

The outcome sees the combined efforts of two innovative products in the marketplace achieve synergy to unlock the path to high-fidelity ECG (Expanded Color Gamut) printing, allowing printers to benefit from increased productivity and reduced costs. Hamillroad is working with other partners across the sector to certify their products for use with Bellissima DMS.

Charlotte, NC, December 9, 2010 – GEW’s mini laboratory UV curing unit is a must for any ink room working with UV inks.  Since HarperScientific™ division of global anilox supplier Harper Corporation is the leader in bladed hand ink proofers, it only makes sense that they now can offer and promote the GEW Mini-Lab unit for its North and South American customers.

The 88-pound (40kg) mini lab UV curing unit with its simple controls and ozone-free UV lamp can be operated away from printing and coating lines. It offers a belt and curing width of 6 inch (150mm). Using constant UV lamp power the mini lab unit controls curing dosage by varying belt speed from 16.4 to 229.6 feet per minute (5 to 70 meters per minute).

Included as standard is GEW’s focused dichroic reflectorwith 80W/cm (200W/in). An exhaust fan/on-board cooling system keeps the unit running at peak performance even after many hours of full speed operation.

The mini lab’s 220/240 V 50/60 Hz single phase 13 amp power supply fits with most workplace locations. Available options include in-feed and out-feed sample catching trays,

iron and gallium doped lamps, spare UV cassettes and UV lamps and an inert gas nitrogen atmosphere capsule for inert curing applications.

Tony Donato, Harper Product Development Engineer, said his company’s association with GEW reflects the Harper philosophy of providing customers with tools and Technologies that complements our Phantom family of bladed hand proofers.

“The combination of Harper ink proofers with GEW’s UV curing unit will increase the productivity of the UV ink techs.  GEW mini laboratory unit will help maximize the number of ink draw downs per shift helping the ink room to deliver press ready inks to the press room on time day after day,” Donato said.

Charlotte, N.C., February 22, 2010 – Harper GraphicSolutions™, the technical service arm of global anilox supplier Harper Corporation of America, has produced an illustrated guide for troubleshooting anilox roll applications.

Available free upon request, the new 24-page illustrated guide provides a comprehensive reference to common and not-so-common conditions that frequently arise during the anilox printing process.

Suggested care of bearings and gears, solutions to plate cylinder over-impressions, corrective actions for misaligned anilox, plate and impression cylinders and cures for excessive impressions between plate and substrate are among the problems addressed in the  troubleshooting guide.

Ink-related issues warrant extensive coverage in the new guide. It offers a bulleted causes/remedies approach to many topics: monitoring of ink pressure, elimination of ink flooding and excessive pressure, avoiding improper settings of the ink roller nip, solutions to fast-drying ink, ink with excessive viscosity, water-based ink with insufficient pH, solvent imbalances and more.

“We think our new troubleshooting volume will prove to be a valuable resource for everyone regularly involved in anilox roll technology, whether they are new to the process or already an old anilox hand,” said Alexander James, Technical Graphics Manager at Harper GraphicSolutions™.
